Room Temperature Vulcanized (RTV) molding is a low-volume production method of creating small to medium quantities of prototypes as an alternative to the high cost and time to produce hard tooling. The RTV process is sometimes referred to as cast urethane, soft tooling, rubber tooling or silicone rubber molding. The process begins with the creation of a prototype master pattern, usually SLA. Liquid silicone is poured around the pattern to create a mold. The pattern is then removed and the silicone mold is cured, resulting in an RTV tool. Polyurethane material is poured into the tool to produce the final cast urethane part. Highlights of RTV Molding include:
